The Who, What, When, Where, and Why of the New Canadian Weblog Awards / Qui, quoi, quand, où et pourquoi?

   ·   Tuesday, December 29, 2009   ·
Who?
The Canadian Weblog Awards are a juried competition brought to you by me, Schmutzie of Schmutzie.com. I will be blogging and coordinating this baby throughout the year.

What?
The Canadian Weblog Awards are intended to promote good weblogs of all genres from across Canada year round through regular interviews, articles, and the nomination, judging, and award process that culminates with the announcement of the top three weblogs in each category on January 1st.

When?
Nominations are accepted from January 1st through October 31st. A panel of select judges whittles down the nominees in each category according to a pre-determined set of criteria, and a list of the top ten nominees is announced on December 1st. The judges then choose the best three weblogs in each category, and the winners are announced on January 1st, 2011.

Where?
Well, right here, of course. The Canadian Weblog Awards headquarters are technically located in Regina, Saskatchewan, but they occur across not only the vast expanse of this country but also the entire globe, because anyone from anywhere is free to nominate a Canadian weblog for the honour.

Why?
Even the best weblogs can get buried under the swathes of information that flood the internet, and the Canadian Weblog Awards are determined to bring good Canadian weblogs to light. This is why we use a panel of judges rather than the popular vote to unearth our best and brightest. The use of a judging panel that follows a specific set of criteria to evaluate the nominees helps to ensure that the winning weblogs are chosen more for their quality rather than by how many people they can mobilize to vote.

We're a talented lot, we Canadians, and we should show it off. We deserve it.

----------------------------------------

You are a blogging machine my fair Schmutzie. Nice work my friend. Does this mean we cannot nominate you?

jenB, other jurors can be nominated, but I feel that I must recuse myself from the process. Even if it was on the up and up, it would still look fishy if I placed in any category.

Good luck with it. I thought the other Canadian Weblog Awards were kind of cheap when they had Rick Mercer win for humour blog. He doesn't even do his own blog. After that I couldn't take the award seriously at all.

I think this is a fantastic idea. Please let me know if I can help out in any way. I'm willing to work!

Lynn, thank you! I'm piecing this whole thing together over this inaugural year and am just learning this as I go, so I'll let you know if I need any help. I'm excited to see what this year holds.

I just realized you're not allowed to be nominated. And I nominated you. So - uh, disregard and I shall nominate you elsewhere because you're writing deserves recognition too.
